Smashing records and wowing critics, RRR has lived up to its hype as one of the most anticipated releases looked forward to by cinephiles in the country. Apart from the compelling story, skilled direction and grand visuals, the performances of the film’s cast were lauded by fans and critics alike. Ram Charan, who stars in the film opposite Jr NTR, recently opened up about his character.
In the film, which is a fictional story, Charan essays the role of real life Indian revolutionary Alluri Sitarama Raju. In conversation with Variety, Charan talked about how director SS Rajamouli would carefully layout the characters in careful detail, tracing the character’s life through different phases like childhood, teenage years and adulthood. Raju’s character is a well read yogi and a skilled archer. “All these elements had to be embedded in my character when he begins the film, though everything is not going to be visually seen from the first scene,” said Charan.
One of the biggest challenges was to emote the character in a way that stays true to Raju’s personality. Raju was someone who used meditation to make sure that his emotions were in check, so Charan could not ‘go all out’ while playing the role.
Even Raju’s physical characteristics had to be carefully crafted. The aim was to make his physique resemble one that could be attained in the 1920s period where workouts took forms like wrestling, as opposed to a ‘chiselled’ body that could be attained in modern gyms.
RRR is now playing in theatres. The film is expected to start streaming on Netflix and ZEE5 after its theatrical run, sometime in June. The film will be available to stream in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada.
