Role Play is an action-comedy thriller that puts a nice twist on the good ol’ married spy story. Instead of going the Mr. and Mrs. Smith way or the 1993-film Butterfly way, director Thomas Vincent decides to play a pun on role play, by having a couple’s blissful existence shatter on the night they attempt role play, by revealing that the wife is a secret assassin.

Releasing on Prime Video on January 12, 2024, the film will feature a stellar cast with The Big Bang Theory star Kaley Cuoco and The Butler actor David Oyelowo as the leading pair Emma and David. Role Play also stars Bill Nighy, Connie Nielsen, Sonita Henry, Simon Delaney, Rudi Dharmalingam, Lucia Aliu, Reagan Bryan-Gudgeon, Jade-Eleena Dregorius, Stephanie Levi-John, Betty Kaplan, Angus McGruther, Julia Schunevitsch, Moritz Berg, Matthias Schmidt, Dong Hyun Yoon, and Stephen Jung.

The official synopsis reads, “Emma has a wonderful husband and two kids in the suburbs of New Jersey—she also has a secret life as an assassin for hire, a secret that her husband David discovers when the couple decides to spice up their marriage with a little role play.”

Now, normally one would expect the husband to be enraged, indifferent, or nagging, perhaps? Instead, what he does is buy a ticket to wherever his wife is on a mission, against her dire warnings, and flies in coach to be by her side and help her fight her enemies and protect the family.

A fun, sweet-yet-spicy adventure to warm your insides on a wintry day, Role Play is guaranteed to make you laugh and jump in equal excitement and intrigue. Scripted by Seth W. Owen and Andrew Baldwin, the trailer for Role Play dropped on November 15, 2023. It featured a suave and smooth Kaley Cuoco as the gorgeous yet deadly assassin cum suburb mom, who shoots and karate chops people as easily as she goes out with her husband for drinks on their anniversary.
