The most-anticipated trailer of the year, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, has been released today with full pomp and fervour. The trailer features popular actors Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt in titular roles standing strong along with actors Shabana Azmi, Jaya Bachchan, and Dharmendra in supporting roles.
Not only this but, this upcoming movie is also directed by ace filmmaker Karan Johar and is produced by Dharma Productions.
With such a stellar cast and crew, it was evident that the anticipation around the romantic drama is skyrocketing. However, with too much disappointment, social media users (or popularly known as netizens) seem to be unhappy watching the trailer, many of whom termed it as a “cringe fest”.
A certain section of social media users did not like watching Alia Bhatt playing a ‘Bengali’ and the way she says, ‘Khela Hobe’ in the film. Not only this, but the film also throws light on stereotypical notions that all ‘Bengalis’ are born intelligent and their love for popular poet, late Rabindranath Tagore holds no bounds.
Some social media users did not enjoy the jokes cracked by Ranveer Singh, who is essaying the role of rich-spoiled brat Rocky Randhawa in the film. In one of the jokes, Rocky says, “We should stop voting in India. Shamita is not in the house.” Then, a family member of Rani (aka Alia Bhatt) curiously asks, “Who is Shamita? Which constituency is she in?” Seconds later, Rocky said, “Bigg Boss.”
For the unaware, Shamita Shetty – the sister of popular actress Shilpa Shetty, was a participant in the reality show, Bigg Boss 15. This reality show was hosted by megastar Salman Khan.
Also, with such cringe jokes and a stereotypical setup, movie buffs found it difficult to love Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh’s lip-lock scene.
The trailer also shows Jaya Bachchan (as Dhanlaxmi), compelling Alia Bhatt to cover her head with a dupatta while offering prayers to the deity – an act that was not appreciated by Alia Bhatt herself.
A Twitter user said, “Yeh film hai? Yes, in between songs shots are there. Rest, all is a TV serial. But where are emotions, comedy, and drama?”
“Sorry, didn't like it at ALL... Huge sets but something is missing, maybe a good story?,” wrote another Twitter user.
Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani is an upcoming romantic comedy family drama film that is slated to be released theatrically in India on July 28.
