Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani: Here's what Karan Johar has to say on Dharmendra-Shabana Azmi's surprising onscreen kiss in the film

One of the most beautiful moments in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani is the kiss between Dharmendra and Shabana Azmi, which took the audience by surprise. The veteran actors' love story is among the major highlights of the Karan Johar film, which has stayed with the audience. During a recent interaction, the filmmaker was asked if it was hard to convince Dharmendra and Shabana to kiss onscreen.

Karan told Film Companion, "Two great veterans just performed with absolute aplomb, no questions asked. I needed it to be a peck. One of my all-time favourites is Abhi Na Jao Chhod Kar, and it had to be their song because that’s what she says in the dialogue about Mall Road Walks, their re-run, their favourite song. And that became the thematic kind of connection between Rocky (Ranveer Singh) and Rani (Alia Bhatt) as well."

When asked about the on-screen kiss earlier during an interview with News18, the renowned actor responded that he had heard that the audience was shocked and even applauded during the kissing scene between Shabana and him. The actor shared that it came out of nowhere and caught many off guard, which is why it made such an impression. People also seemed to enjoy the kissing scene he did in Life in a Metro with Nafisa Ali.

Dharmendra further said that he wasn't too thrilled. They got it, and he agreed to do it since it was something the movie needed but didn't insist upon. Furthermore, the veteran actor thinks it's never too late to fall in love. Two people of any age will kiss to express their love for one another; age is just a number. It was so artistically appealing that neither Shabana nor he felt self-conscious about engaging in it.
