Counted among Bollywood’s most versatile and talented actors, Jim Sarbh has time and again captivated the audience with his unconventional looks and remarkable performances. Here are six of his most memorable characters on screen.
1. Rocket Boys - as Dr Homi J Bhabha
In SonyLIV’s Nikhil Advani-created biographical streaming television series Rocket Boys, Jim played the protagonist Dr Homi Bhabha - a nuclear physicist, who is often referred to as the ‘father of the Indian nuclear programme’. While the series features Ishwak Singh as Dr Vikram Sarabhai, it also stars Regina Cassandra, Saba Azad and Rajit Kapur.
2. Mrs. Chatterjee Vs Norway - as Daniel Singh Ciupek
Inspired by a true story, the Rani Mukerji-starrer, Mrs. Chatterjee Vs Norway, explores the emotional and legal battle faced by an Indian couple. As Daniel Singh Ciupek, lawyer of Norway, Jim Sarbh delivers a compelling performance in the courtroom drama. The film is directed by Ashima Chibber.
3. Neerja - as Khalil
In the biographical thriller film, Neerja - featuring Sonam Kapoor as the title character - Jim plays Khalil, an eccentric terrorist. The film is based on flight attendant Neerja Bhanot, who died while protecting passengers on the hijacked Pan Am Flight 73 in 1986. Directed by Ram Madhvani, Jim’s portrayal of the antagonist aboard the hijacked aircraft is chilling and intense.
4. Sanju - as Zubin ‘God’ Mistry
In Rajkumar Hirani’s biographical film Sanju, which chronicles the life of actor Sanjay Dutt, Ranbir Kapoor appeared as the lead, while Jim played Zubin ‘God’ Mistry, one of Sanju’s first friends in Mumbai. His character becomes an integral part of Sanju’s life, offering support and camaraderie.
5. Made in Heaven - as Adil Khanna
In Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti’s romantic drama web series Made In Heaven, streaming on Amazon Prime Video, Jim plays an unconventional yet captivating character, called Adil Khanna. The series also stars Arjun Mathur, Sobhita Dhulipala, Shashank Arora, Kalki Koechlin and Shivani Raghuvanshi.
6. Gangubai Kathiawadi - as journalist Hamid Fezi
Jim is seen as journalist Hamid Fezi in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s biographical crime drama film Gangubai Kathiawadi, featuring Alia Bhatt as the eponymous lead. The film is inspired by the life of Gangubai Kothewali. Considered yet another memorable performance by Jim, the movie also features Shantanu Maheshwari, Vijay Raaz, Indira Tiwari, Seema Pahwa and Ajay Devgn (in an extended cameo).
