As the DCU gears up for its upcoming projects, the world is currently captivated by DC Elseworlds, which has become the focal point of the superhero universe. This week saw the release of The Penguin, a TV show set in the universe of Matt Reeves' The Batman, continuing the epic crime saga right where the Robert Pattinson-led film left off. The show explores Gotham from the perspective of Oswald Cobblepot (Oz), portrayed by Colin Farrell. One of the biggest questions from fans has been whether Robert Pattinson’s Batman will appear in the series. The makers have confirmed that he won’t. However, the larger question remains whether Pattinson’s Batman will ever make it to the small screen as more spin-off shows emerge. Matt Reeves has provided some insight into this.

Will Batman Appear in Any TV Shows?

For the uninitiated, The Batman is now expanding into its own DC Elseworlds franchise, referred to as The Batman Epic Crime Saga. The Penguin is the first step in the TV series expansion of this franchise, and more spin-offs are already in the pipeline. With so many aspects of the franchise, led by Robert Pattinson, being explored, fans are wondering if Batman himself will make an appearance in one of these shows. According to Reeves, there is indeed a possibility.

As per Comic Book Movie, Reeves mentioned that he created The Penguin to explore characters beyond Bruce Wayne and to dive deeper into their stories. He clarified that while the films will focus on Batman as the central figure, the TV shows will explore the other characters and aspects of Gotham. However, when asked if Batman might ever appear on a TV show, Reeves acknowledged that it’s possible:

"That’s not to say that there would never be an appearance by Batman or Bruce [Wayne] or something like that [on a future series]," Reeves said. "Lauren and I did speak: Do we want to find a way to get Rob [Pattinson] to somehow be in this show? But that was an afterthought."

What About The Batman - Part II?

The Batman - Part II is one of the most anticipated films, and fans already know that production is set to begin in 2025, with the movie currently in pre-production. In the same interview, Reeves was asked about the status of the sequel. He confirmed that the script is finished, and filming will begin next year.

Reeves also hinted that Oz, played by Colin Farrell, will serve as one of the entry points into the new movie: "Oz does become one of the entry points into the movie. I can't tell you where it goes from there, except to say that we're super excited about it," Reeves teased.

The Batman Part II is set to release on October 2, 2026. Meanwhile, The Penguin premiered on September 20, 2024, with one of its eight episodes. New episodes will be released every Friday on JioCinema in India, available in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Bengali, and Marathi.
