Director Abhilash Joshiy’s debut directorial debut King of Kotha seems to have all the trappings of a ‘mass’ commercial entertainer. The movie, which has Dulquer Salmaan, Aishwarya Lekshmi and Chemban Vinod Jose in the lead, also features a special dance number by Irudhi Suttru actress Ritika Singh.
The actress had joined the sets of the movie in Ramanathapuram, near Karaikudi, earlier this week and has reportedly wrapped up shooting the song sequence. As per reports, the dance sequence appears during a carnival scene in the film. The team, which had begun shooting the movie last month, had resumed shoot a few weeks ago and will conclude by the end of this week.
The plan right now is to resume the next schedule in Uttar Pradesh. The movie, which is made on a big budget and planned as pan-Indian release, is also produced by Dulquer’s Wayfarer Films. In an recent interview with Masala!, Dulquer said that King of Kotha, which is scripted by Porinju Mariyam Jose writer Abhilash N Chandran, belongs to the action-gangster genre.
The actor said he usually doesn’t sign such films but this movie in particular was a “very commercial gangster drama” that had “great writing and content”. The movie is set in a fictional town called Kotha.
Dulquer is coming fresh off the success of three superhits in Malayalam, Telugu and Hindi with Kurup, Sita Ramam and Chup: Revenge of the Artist, respectively. King of Kotha is his second big budget feature that is also produced by him, since Kurup hit theatres last November.
The movie also marks the first time Aishwarya Lekshmi will be sharing screen space with Dulquer. Apart from the duo, Gokul Suresh will also be seen in a pivotal role in King of Kotha, which is set to hit theatres in 2023.
