In July last year, OTTplay had reported that Kannada actor Rishi, of Operation Alamelamma and Kavaludaari fame, among others, was headed to Tollywood. Rishi had been signed up to play the lead in director Mahi Raghav’s crime drama series, Shaitan, which was being made for Disney+Hotstar. A source had confirmed that although Rishi was the protagonist, he was not playing a cop in the crime drama; instead, he was the criminal. Made in Telugu, the show, said the source, would be dubbed in Hindi, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam. At the time, Rishi had confirmed the news that he was a part of the show, but said that he was contractually bound not to speak about it.
The actor, who has been doing a lot of travelling off late, including trips to Europe and Japan, tells us that the day is not far when the team will officially begin talking about the show. “I do not have confirmation yet, but I am told that Shaitan might drop on the platform by mid or late June. I have been planning the release of my next Kannada film, Ramana Avatara, for which we are planning end of June or early July. The film is in the final stage of post-production. Composer Judah Sandhy’s background score is pending for a couple more reels and then we will be done and dusted. We will be sending the film to be censor certified thereafter. In the meantime, we will begin releasing the songs, one by one. I want to avoid a clash between my web show and the film. Ramana Avatara will be in theatres a few weeks after Shaitan,” says Rishi.
Directed by Vikas and Vinay Pampapathi, Ramana Avatara also stars Pranitha Subhash, Shubra Aiyappa, Danish Sait and Raj B Shetty in pivotal roles.
