Rishab Shetty’s latest social media post does not hint at a professional collaboration, but fans are hopeful that the duo will work together in some capacity

A little while ago, actor-filmmaker Rishab Shetty, who is bang in the middle of the making of his next, the Kantara prequel, Kantara Chapter 1: A Legend, posted a bunch of images from his meeting with Malayalam superstar Mohanlal. Rishab was joined by his wife, Pragati, in this meeting. It is not clear if it was a chance encounter or if Rishab actively sought out Mohanlal for a meet. The caption accompanying the pictures only read, “An honour and pleasure to meet the legend, @mohanlal sir”.
The post got some netizens wondering if the Malayalam superstar is going to be a part of Kantara Chapter 1, while others hoped that a professional collaboration would be on the anvil shortly. They also urged Rishab to provide an update on the status of Kantara Chapter 1. Neither Rishab nor the production house, Hombale Films, has offered any update on the start of shooting, although, the actor-filmmaker said that massive sets had been put up in his home town near Kundapura.
The team had also conducted auditions for junior artistes, as well as hired members for the technical crew, so they should be all set to go on floors. There are rumours that Rishab has actively begun shooting for the film and will make an official announcement once it is in some form and shape. Confirmation about these snippets of information is what fans are hoping for.
Kantara: Chapter 1 is a film set during the Kadamba dynasty, with the most widely discussed speculation being that Rishab is presenting the origin story of Panjurli daiva, the deity he was possessed by during the Bhootha Kola sequence in Kantara, and whose Kshetrapala Guliga helped him overcome his opponents.
The fact that Rishab sports earrings that look like a boar’s tusks had several netizens and actor-filmmaker Rakshit Shetty speculating that Panjurli would be an integral part of Kantara: Chapter 1. The film is said to be an early 2025 release and will be on Amazon Prime Video after its theatrical run.
