KK died hours after a full-house performance at Nazrul Mancha, Kolkata.

Eminent singer KK passed away in Kolkata on May 31 hours after performing at Nazrul Mancha, Kolkata, at a college fest. According to reports, the musician felt unwell after the show and went straight back to his hotel near Esplanade, central Kolkata. He was immediately rushed to Calcutta Medical Research Institute (CMRI) as his health deteriorated but the hospital declared him dead. The doctors said he suffered from cardiac arrest and was brought dead. He was 53 and is survived by his wife and children.
On Tuesday, the musician reached the auditorium at around 6:45 pm. According to the members of the auditorium, the singer kept on complaining about the heat. He also asked to switch off the spotlights and went backstage frequently. “He was profusely sweating,” said one of the members of the audience. According to reports, the singer fell down on the hotel staircase before he was taken to the hospital.
Members of the music fraternity reached the hospital soon after the news started spreading. Musician Jeet Gannguli informed the media that his wife might fly down to the city on Wednesday morning. Anupam Roy was also spotted at the hospital. While talking to us, Jeet Gannguli said he could not process the news. “We were friends for 27 years. He first sang a Bengali song with me. We worked together on so many projects. He was a dear friend. I still can’t believe that he is gone. We were supposed to return to Mumbai together. We were supposed to work on a project together soon. It’s unbelievable that he is gone,” the composer told us.
KK mesmerised the Indian audience with his soulful numbers, including Pal, Yaaron, Tadap Tadap and many others. His debut album Pal was released in 1999 and was an instant hit among the teenagers. Besides Hindi songs, KK sang in Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Marathi and so on.
