Actress-turned-producer Richa Chadha is heading to Uttarakhand to shoot for her debut production venture Girls Will Be Girls. Newcomer Shuchi Talati will direct the coming-of-age drama, which will centre around a teenage girl’s tumultous but loving relationship with her mother.
According to reports in Mid-Day, Chadha was charmed by the state’s scenic beauty after filming her web-series Candy in Nainital.
As Girls Will Be Girls is set in a boarding school in the hills, Chadha thought Uttarakhand would be an apt backdrop for the story. The film will be shot in Dehradun, Mussoorie and Nainital.
“The location was so peaceful and serene that I found it easier to focus [on things] than when in the city,” Chadha told Mid-Day.
Chadha and her boyfriend Ali Fazal recently launched their production banner Pushing Buttons Studios. Girls Will Be Girls, which the duo had announced this March, is their maiden project. Crawling Angel Films and Dolce Vita Films will also produce.
Press Trust of India mentions that Girls Will Be Girls was selected as India’s first entry for Berlinale Script Station 2021, which picks ten such scripts from around the world.
The film is said to start its pre-production by the end of 2020.
Chadha had previously told Mid-Day that she wanted an all-female crew for Girls Will Be Girls, explaining that a feminist story is always “refreshing” when told by a female voice.
The actor was last seen in Shakeela, directed by Indrajit Lankesh. Her upcoming film includes Anubhav Sinha’s Abhi Toh Party Shuru Hui Hai.
