In the wake of the protests against the RG Kar incident, there is also the allegation about the sexual harassment of the female crew and cast by the producers, directors, and actors in the Bengali entertainment industry. Recently, an actress reported a case of sexual misconduct by a known director to the West Bengal Commission for Women. The director reportedly visited the representatives of the commission. Actress Raima Sen talked about the issue in a recent interview.
Raima told Hindustan Times, “I am sure that such things happen in every industry. Though I never faced it and hence can't comment on it, these things happen.” Talking about the atrocities on women, she also said, “Stringent laws should be passed for women's safety. India saw the #Metoo movement, but did that change anything? The only measure to stop rape is the harshest punishment for the criminals. Sexual harassment happens everywhere. Recurring Metoo movements are fruitless.”
Raima thinks that only women can protect other women. Women are not safe till the laws are made by men. 'No state or no political leader can change it, except the women. Rapes are happening all over the country and each state handles them shamefully. We need intelligent legal women both in the government and in the justice department.'
