Yet another ‘Reclaim the Night’ event took place on September 4 all over the state as a protest to the heinous rape and murder of a doctor at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Common people crowded the streets in the evening. At 9 pm, people switched off the lights for an hour. Protesters then assembled at the key places of Kolkata.

The assemblies at College Square and Shyambazar were huge, and the slogan ‘Justice for RG Kar’ was raised there. The crowd formed human chains. People from all age groups came to the street. There were candle vigils, paintings on the street, and writing messages. Tollywood celebrities like Rituparna Sengupta, Tathagata Mukherjee, Debleena Dutta, Bibriti Chatterjee, Soham Majumder, Solanki Roy, Rishabh Basu, and Ratashree Dutta were present there. Mimi Chakraborty visited the Jadavpur assembly.

Rituparna came to Shyambazar Crossing and said ‘So many people’s protest will not go in vain. I hope for justice.’ She also said that she did not support the attack on the protesters in Mathabhanga. However, Rituparna faced the ‘go back’ slogan by the protesters. She was trolled by imitating the sound of a conch. Rituparna was compelled to leave the place.

A massive crowd came to Jadavpur 8B and the roads were blocked. There were street performances, street plays and songs, and a candlelight vigil. Actresses Sudipta Chakraborty and Ditipriya Roy were present there. However, some unrest happened due to the untoward behavior of a drunk person in Garia. The cops had to intervene.
