Renowned filmmaker and cinematographer Sangeet Sivan passed away on Wednesday at the age of 61. The filmmaker received treatment at a private hospital in Mumbai, where he reportedly took his last breath. The hospital authorities have yet to confirm the cause of the death.

Sangeeth Sivan's background and influence

The Malayalam and Hindi film industries may look back on his career, which included a wealth of influential films. Mohanlal's performance as the protagonist in Yodha, Sangeeth's second feature, stands out.

Sangeeth Sivan was born into a filmmaking family; his father, Sivan, was a filmmaker. He was close with his brothers Santosh and Sanjeev Sivan, who left lasting impressions in the Indian film industry and shared his love of storytelling.

Rise to prominence with Yodha

Basu Bhattacharya saw potential in Sangeeth Sivan and put him in charge of producing the legendary film Raakh, which was also his directorial debut. This was the beginning of Sivan's career as a filmmaker. Shortly after, Sangeeth Sivan tried his hand at directing, making an indelible mark with the highly praised Malayalam film Vyooham.

But it was the smash hit Yodha (1992) that really brought him to the forefront, earning him accolades and establishing him as a top director in Malayalam cinema. Famous performers like Mohanlal worked with him in films like Gandharvam and Nirnayam.

Transition to Bollywood

The Bollywood career of Sangeeth Sivan began with the film Zor, which starred Sunny Deol, and continued with his work on Sandhya and Chura Liyaa Hai Tumne.

His comedy film Yamla Pagla Deewana 2, which featured the Deol family, was a triumph in spite of the fact that not all of his Bollywood projects were financially successful.
