Renfield, a 2023 film, is making its way to Netflix on August 2, 2024. The film is currently streaming on JioCinema and available to rent on ZEE5 (OTTplay Premium) and Prime Video. Chris McKay and Ryan Ridley direct Renfield, an action comedy horror film, based on a story by Robert Kirkman, who also served as a producer alongside McKay, Samantha Nisenboim, David Alpert, and Bryan and Sean Furst. Nicholas Hoult, Awkwafina, Ben Schwartz, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Brandon Scott Jones, Adrian Martinez, and Nicolas Cage star in the film, which draws inspiration from the characters in Bram Stoker's 1897 novel Dracula.

Renfield plot summary

The film follows the adventures of Renfield, who is Dracula's loyal servant. Renfield, played by Nicholas Hoult, is the most egotistical employer in history, serving under the leadership of Nicolas Cage's Dracula. Renfield has faithfully carried out Dracula's every command, no matter how vile, for generations. Now that he has finally figured out how to leave the poisonous, codependent connection, Renfield is prepared to seek out a new life away from the Prince of Darkness's shadow.

Renfield's "rotten" 58% rating on Rotten Tomatoes shows a split among critics, with more fans than detractors overall. It may not have been a smash hit at the box office, but it certainly won over a large portion of the audience. Renfield has many redeeming qualities, including its hilarious dialogue, its wonderfully offbeat acting, and its lively visual style.

Dracula's fate and sequel possibility

Compared to other monster films released this century, this one has the greatest potential to serve as a series opener. Despite the film's redeeming qualities, the makers might not immediately approve Renfield 2.

Even though Dracula isn't legally dead at the end of Renfield, Rebecca and Renfield did everything in their power to ensure he would never return, even going to extreme lengths like grinding him up, melting him down, and turning him into ice cubes. Still, he has the option to return, particularly because Cage's portrayal of the Prince of Darkness was the film's most beloved element. If Universal decides to make a Renfield sequel, the actor will definitely want to be in it.

Until then, you can stream Renfield on OTT.
