Rekhachithram OTT release date: When and where to watch Asif Ali-Anaswara Rajan led mystery thriller

Rekhachithram, the big Sankranti release from Malayalam this year, was the industry’s first hit as well, getting to the Rs 50 crore club. The film, directed by Jofin T Chacko (of The Priest fame) and starring Asif Ali and Anaswara Rajan in the lead, is a mystery crime thriller that blends reel with real. Based on a story by Ramu Sunil, who also developed the screenplay with John Manthrickal, the film opened to overwhelmingly positive response from critics and audiences.

Following its successful theatrical run, Rekhachithram was expected to make its way to OTT soon enough, with a post 30-day mark thought to be the window. However, the film did not make it to streaming then and it has now been revealed that it will take some more time to be available. Rekhachithram’s digital streaming rights had been picked up by Sony LIV, and the streamer has set March 7 as its OTT premiere date.

Rekhachithram’s ensemble cast also includes Manoj K Jayan, Siddique, Jagadish, Saikumar, Harishree Ashokan, Indrans, Nishanth Sagar, TG Ravi, Srikant Murali, Sreejith Ravi, Sudhi Koppa, Saleema, Priyanka Nair, Nandu, Vijay Menon and many others. The film’s cinematography is by Appu Prabhakar, while Mujeeb Majeed is responsible for the music.

The film revolves around a cold case investigation that gets reopened following a confession by a man, who subsequently commits suicide. Asif plays Vivek Gopinath, the station house officer, under whose jurisdiction the case falls. Following the confession by Rajendran (Siddique), on a social media live session, about a crime he committed 4 decades ago, along with associates, Vakkachan (Vincent) and Francis Thadathil (Saikumar).

In the course of his investigation, Vivek not only digs up a human skull, but is also told about a young girl who was a part of the shoot of the Malayalam film Kathodu Kathoram, starring Mammootty in the lead. The circumstances under which the girl, Rekha (Anaswara), disappeared, had led to a case of fraud being pinned on her. What actually happened during the shoot of Kathodu Kathoram is at the crux of the narrative.
