Rekhachithram director Jofin T Chacko reveals who played Mammootty's AI stand-in in the Asif Ali thriller

Rekhachithram had won lot of love and appreciation from audiences during its theatrical release in January 2025. But after the Malayalam thriller film made its OTT release, Rekhachithram is seeing a renewed interest among audiences who are lauding the makers for incorporating Mammootty in the film with the help of AI technology. Now, Rekhachithram director Jofin T Chacko has explained how they created the scenes and the actor who played Mammootty's AI stand-in in the Asif Ali thriller. Read on... 

Mammootty's AI stand-in in Rekhachithram

Asif Ali’s Rekhachithram released on Sony Liv on March 6, 2025, leading to a renewed interest among the audiences about the Mammootty’s AI scenes from the Malayalam thriller. In a Facebook post, director Jofin T Chacko has explained what went into the making of the AI scenes of Mammootty and thanked those who made it possible. 

Jofin T Chacko, who previously helmed Mammootty-starrer The Priest, said that it was Twinkle Surya who played the Malayalam megastar’s AI stand-in. Surya was able to convincingly capture the star’s body language and movements with ease, Jofin added. 

He also thanked Arun, artist trainer, and ⁠Andrew and the Mindstein Team who helmed the AI de-aging aspects for the scenes. 

‘Mammootty’ in Rekhachithram

For those of you who are yet to see Rekhachithram, Asif Ali stars as cop Vivek, who finds a skeleton and tries to find who the victim was. His quest leads him to an aspiring actress named Rekha, who featured in Mammootty-starrer Kathodu Kaathoram as a junior artist. Anaswara Rajan appeared as the young Rekha. 

As the film required to show Mammootty in his 1980s appearance, the film’s makers used AI to create those scenes. The couple of scenes featuring Mammootty from that era have already won the netizens who are praising the makers for connivingly pulling it within limited budgets. Manoj K Jayan, Siddique, Harisree Ashokan, Zarin Shihab and Indrans are also part of the thriller film.
