The latest Malayalam film to receive a lot of love from the audience and the critics is director Jofin T Chacko's Rekhachithram, which has Asif Ali and Anaswara Rajan in the lead. The movie, a mystery-thriller cum tribute to Malayalam cinema of the 80s, was released almost four years after Jofin's directorial debut The Priest, but its success is bittersweet for the filmmaker.

In a social media post on Saturday, after the film had become a resounding success collecting over Rs 7.4 Cr from India in its first three days, the director shared a heart-warming post, dedicating it as well as the success to his late father.

Rekhachithram director Jofin dedicates film to his father

In the post, Jofin described his father as a strict teacher who never even used to watch films in theatres. A decade ago, when everyone was against Jofin's decision to pursue cinema, he wrote that his father had supported him, even though he knew and liked very little about the cinema industry. "If this is your wish, then you should try for it for sometime. If it doesn't work out, you should leave it and take up something else. You shouldn't live your live with regrets," his father had said.

The filmmaker explained that it was because of the strength of these words that he traveled to Kochi and pursued his dream. He also wrote that his father was sad that it took him four years to make his second film, and because of this, he didn't read the script of Rekhachithram.

"When everything was set and we were ready to begin the shoot, and one day, when Asikka (Asif Ali) and I had sat for a script-reading session, my father left us," he wrote. This was on February 14, 2024.

Though Jofin wrote that he wished his father would have heard all the positive responses for Rekhachithram, he dedicated the film to him.
