Asif Ali seems to be on a roll these days as his latest film Rekhachithram continues its successful run in the theatres. Jofin T Chacko's mystery thriller, which also stars Anaswara Rajan, raked in Rs 2.00 crore in the India net collection on its fifth day at the box office, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. The movie, winning much love and appreciation from audiences, is giving tough competition to Tovino Thomas’ Identity which was the first major release for Malayalam in 2025.

With Rs 2.00 crore earned in India net collection on day 5 at the box office, Rekhachithram’s total collection now stands at 13.15 crore. The only other two major Malayalam releases are Tovino Thomas’ Identity and Ennu Swantham Punyalan. Ennu Swantham Punyalan, which also features Anaswara Rajan along with Arjun Ashokan and Balu Varghese, is hardly giving any competition and is still in single-digit earnings. On the other hand, Tovino Thomas’ Identity, which was released on January 2, has raked in Rs 16 crore in 11 days and is unlikely to collect any impressive numbers in the coming days.
This gives a free rein to Rekhachithram which is generating significant buzz among audiences for its unique narrative and also features megastar Mammootty in a cameo. The film has been seeing a steady rise in its box office earnings. Day 1 earned Rs 1.9 crore, Day 2 - Rs 2.2 crore, Day 3 - Rs 3.3 crore and Day 4 - Rs 3.75 crore. Even Day 5 registered Rs 2.00 crore, despite being a Monday. The film thus looks on course to bring in more profits and is expected to close the gap with Tovino Thomas' Identity as Rekhachithram earned Rs 13 crore in just five days. Identity, on the other hand, took 11 days to touch Rs 16.
The Asif Ali-starrer saw an overall 33.32% occupancy on January 13, 2025, with night shows’ occupancy reported at 56.34 per cent. In region-wise occupancy figures, Kochi leads the way with 49.00 per cent.
Rekhachithram plot and cast
In Rekhachithram, a cop tries to find out what happened to a young girl who went missing from a film’s location 40 years ago. Asif Ali appears in the role of CI Vivek, while Anaswara Rajan plays the role of the enigmatic Rekha.
Manoj K Jayan, Jagadeesh, Siddique, Zarin Shihab, Harisree Ashokan, Indrans and Sai Kumar also play key roles.
