Rekhachithram, the Malayalam film which stars Asif Ali and Anaswara Rajan in the lead roles, is gearing up for a January 2025 release. The movie, helmed by The Priest fame director Jofin T Chacko, is touted to be a mystery thriller with horror elements. The Rekhachithram trailer, which was released recently, instantly won the internet and raised expectations over the film. Interestingly, netizens have discovered an interesting connection between the Asif Ali starrer, and Kaathodu Kaathoram, the 1985-released classic Mammootty film.
Kaathodu Kaathoram is the 1985-released romantic drama film, directed by legendary filmmaker Bharathan. Mammootty and Saritha played the protagonists in the film, which remains iconic to date, especially because of its soulful music album, composed by Ouseppachan. Interestingly, the netizens have found some interesting Kaathodu Kaathoram references, in the recently released Rekhachithram trailer. The cinephiles, who decoded the trailer, suggest that Asif Ali and Anaswara Rajan’s film has a strong connection with the Mammootty starrer.
For the uninitiated, Kaathodu Kaathoram has a famous ‘Ganamela’ scene featuring the characters played by Mammootty and Saritha, along with a choir group. Along with the lead pair, the choir group also consists of the nuns and Sunday school students of their locality’s church. Interestingly, director Jofin T Chacko has recreated this particular scene in Rekhachithram, as per the trailer. The narrative of the movie, which is reportedly set in the 1980’s and present, has a direct connection with the Kaathodu Kaathoram film.
The exciting detailing in the Rekhachithram trailer has left the cinephiles, who are familiar with the vintage Malayalam cinema, highly excited. Along with recreating the same ‘Ganamela’ scene, director Jofin T Chacko and his team have also made sure that they cast actors, who resemble Kaathodu Kaathoram director Bharathan, writer John Paul, director Kamal, and none other than leading man, Mammootty. However, the grapevine suggest that the crew recreated the vintage Mammootty with the help of AI tools, for the film.
