In the ever-evolving landscape of filmmaking, the realm of artificial intelligence continues to make significant strides. AI chatbots have emerged as innovative tools that offer unique insights and creative suggestions, enriching the storytelling process. Now, acclaimed Malayalam movie Drishyam, directed by Jeethu Joseph and featuring the legendary Mohanlal, becomes the canvas for AI-powered experimentation.
Over the years, Jeethu’s film has been the subject of several fan fiction. Now, we put popular AI chatbot models, ChatGPT, Bard, and Bing, to the test and asked them to lend their natural language processing abilities to propose intriguing and captivating alternate endings to this gripping crime thriller. By leveraging the vast knowledge and computational capabilities of these AI models, we got them to reimagine the climax of Drishyam, exploring unexpected twists, moral dilemmas and narrative possibilities.
Current ending of the film
Georgekutty's (Mohanlal) intricate cover-up successfully conceals the truth and protects his family from the police investigation. Unbeknownst to the police, Varun's body is hidden beneath a newly-constructed police station building, which Georgekutty had masterfully planned and executed. As the film concludes, Georgekutty and his family continue their seemingly ordinary lives, keeping their dark secret hidden from the world. The ending leaves the audience grappling with the moral complexities of Georgekutty's actions, as well as the profound questions surrounding the lengths one might go to protect their loved ones, the nature of justice, and the potential consequences of deceit.
An open ending for the audience to decide Georgekutty’s fate
In the alternate ending, Georgekutty's carefully constructed cover-up begins to unravel as the cops grow suspicious of his actions. As the investigation intensifies, an officer discovers a crucial piece of evidence that links Georgekutty to the crime. It becomes a race against time for Georgekutty to maintain his innocence and protect his family.
With mounting pressure, Georgekutty takes extreme measures to divert the investigation. He orchestrates an elaborate plan to frame a different individual, someone with a motive and the means to commit the crime. The plan involves manipulating witnesses, planting false evidence, and staging a complex series of events.
As the police close in, Georgekutty's plan seems foolproof. However, just when he believes he has succeeded, an unexpected twist occurs. A key witness, who Georgekutty had overlooked, comes forward with crucial information that exposes his true involvement in the incident. The revelation shocks everyone, including the audience.
In a heart-pounding climax, Georgekutty's desperate attempts to save his family's future reach a breaking point. He finds himself cornered, forced to confront the consequences of his actions. The film ends with a moral dilemma, leaving viewers questioning the nature of justice and the price one pays to protect their loved ones.
A shocking twist and a new villain await Georgekutty
Police find the body of Varun buried under the newly-constructed police station and arrest Georgekutty and his family. However, Georgekutty reveals that he had moved the body from their backyard to the police station site on the night of the murder, and had planted evidence to implicate Jose, a local criminal who had a grudge against Varun’s father.
The police are shocked by Georgekutty’s confession, but they also notice that the body has a bullet wound in the head, which was not mentioned by Georgekutty. They realize that someone else had killed Varun after Georgekutty had buried him, and had reburied him under the police station.
They suspect that it was Geetha Prabhakar, Varun’s mother, who had secretly followed Georgekutty on the night of the murder and had shot her own son in a fit of rage, blaming him for ruining her reputation and career. They confront Geetha with this theory, and she breaks down and admits that she had killed Varun. She begs for forgiveness from Georgekutty and his family, but they are too traumatized by her actions. The police arrest Geetha for murder, and release Georgekutty and his family, who are still haunted by the ordeal.
A tragic end for Georgekutty
Georgekutty and his family go into hiding after the cops find Varun's body. This creates a sense of urgency and danger for the family, as they would be constantly looking over their shoulders. Georgekutty will then be forced to make a deal with the police in exchange for his family's safety. However, things don’t end well as he could be framed for another crime too and is forced to clear his name. But in an attempt to escape the cops, he is either killed by them or Varun's father.
