RDX producer Sophia Paul has revealed that she chose to back the film out of a desire to produce a commercial entertainer after Minnal Murali could not be released in theatres due to COVID-19. She also said that the first project she discussed with RDX director Nahas Hidayath was a different one.
'RDX was made to bring people into theatres'
"I always wanted to do a mass entertainer after Minnal Murali missed its theatrical release. Minnal Murali was made to be released in theatres, but due to COVID-19, we were forced to release it on OTT. Since Minnal Murali, producing a film that attracts people to theatres has been a dream of mine. I chose RDX because it has all the elements for a commercial entertainer," Sophia Paul told Cue Studio.
'Nahas Hidayath and I discussed another story before RDX'
Speaking about Nahas Hidayath, the director of RDX, Sophia added, "The first story narrated by Nahas was different from RDX. But that project required some time because of its large scale. So, I asked whether he had any other stories to pitch, and that is when he narrated the one line of RDX. I asked him to develop it because I wanted to do a project that would be completed quickly."
She added, "I knew that Nahas' first project had stalled for some reason. Unfortunately, it is common to hear negative comments about a director when his or her first project is shelved. But I was confident in him after seeing his short film, which was well received. The way Nahas narrates a story proves his passion for cinema."
RDX release date
RDX is an action entertainer helmed by Nahas Hidayath and starring Shane Nigam, Neeraj Madhav, and Antony Varghese. The film, which is about the lives of three friends and their intense fights, also has elements of a family drama.
