If you, like many others, were all set to catch Drishya 2 on OTT today and were, instead, left disappointed when it didn’t drop on Zee5 as promised, fret not. The makers of the Ravichandran-starrer have announced a new date, and it is only one week away. Earlier, Aarohi Narayan, who plays Ravichandran’s daughter in the film had announced February 18 as its release date, but we are now told it will definitely come out on February 25.
Drishya 2, the sequel to the 2014 Drishya and remake of the Malayalam original Drishyam 2, had got a theatrical release way back in December. In fact, Drishyam 2 and its Telugu remake Drushyam 2 both had straight-to-OTT releases on Amazon Prime Video, but Ravichandran resisted this and insisted the film goes to theatres first, a gamble that paid off for the film team. Drishya 2, which brought back Ravichandran, Navya Nair, Aarohi Narayan, Unnati, Asha Sharath and Prabhu Ganesh, also introduced Pramod Shetty, Anant Nag, Lasya Nagaraj, and Sonu Gowda, among others into the narrative this time around.
The story opens a few years after the events of the first part and follows the family of Rajendra Ponnappa, whose lives were upended, when his daughter Sindhu’s classmate Tarun ‘goes missing’. Tarun was the son of IG of Police Roopa Chandrashekar (Asha Sharath), so, finding him becomes top priority for the police force. While Rajendra Ponnappa is able to successfully keep his family out of harm’s way in the original film, in the sequel, it appears that all his carefully planned moves will come to nought, when the police find an eye witness to the events on the night that Tarun’s body was hidden. Whether or not Rajendra finds a way out of this formed the crux of the narrative.
