Counted among Hindi cinema’s leading actresses from the 1990s - who also appeared in Yash-starrer K.G.F: Chapter 2 and Netflix crime thriller web series Aranyak - Raveena Tandon was recently honoured with the Padma Shri award, in recognition of her contribution to Indian films. Known for her performance in movies like Patthar Ke Phool, Dilwale, Mohra, Ziddi, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Shool, Daman and Aks - the actress is now determined to do a lot more films and OTT shows.
In an exclusive chat with ANI, the National Award-winning actress said that she prefers quality over quantity. “In the coming days, You will see me in a lot of projects. Films, OTTs… But while I was working in films only, I did not burden myself with numbers. I need to spend time with my family.”
Raveena - who has been a part of the Hindi film industry for the past 32 years - received the Padma Shri from President Draupadi Murmu, at a glittery ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhawan. Speaking about her interaction with the President, the actress said, “It was a very beautiful moment. President Murmu told me she has seen all my movies. It’s so sweet of her that she said that it’s an honour for her to give me this award. I told her that it was my honour that I am receiving this from you.”
She was accompanied by her husband Anil Thadani, daughter Rasha and son Ranbir at the award ceremony. “When I saw them all smiling at me, that moment is etched in my mind forever. It feels great when your family feels proud of your achievement,” Raveena said, adding, “My daughter Rasha has put it in a beautiful way, it’s an achievement that is recognized before an entire community, a nation. I am truly honoured.”
Apart from being an artiste, Raveena also supports a number of humanitarian causes through her own foundation and other organisations. “During the Covid-19 pandemic, my organisation provided oxygen cylinders to Delhi free of cost. But I don’t do this for the limelight. My organisation has also contributed to the education of Pulwama victims’ children. I am the only actor chosen from the industry to represent women and child causes at the W20 podium which comes under G20,” she elaborated.
Among her future projects are a romantic-comedy film Ghudchadi, in which she will be seen alongside Sanjay Dutt, Parth Samthan and Khushali Kumar; Vivek Budakoti-directed Patna Shukla; and a Disney+ Hotstar project.
