The makers of Rohit Shetty's Cirkus starring Ranveer Singh as the protagonist unveiled the first song from the film titled Current Laga Re at a song launch event in Mumbai on Thursday. Soon after the song dropped online, netizens started drawing parallels between Deepika's vibrant avatar in the song with her iconic character of Meenamma in Chennai Express which was also helmed by Rohit Shetty.

When quizzed about her experience while shooting the song at the song launch event of Current Laga Re, Deepika shared, "It felt like I was bringing alive the Meenamma in me again. They always say that every character that you play comes from a little bit of your own personality. I do feel like a lot of Meenamma or the character that you're seeing in this song, is inherently me. It's just maybe you all don't get to see it as often just because I'm shy."

Deepika further added that while working with Rohit Shetty again after Chennai Express for this song, she didn't really feel like she was going for a song shoot at all. "It was a celebration. That's what you see on screen. It's love, it's collaboration, it's a celebration and of course my love for Rohit. The fact that we've done such an iconic movie together (referring to Chennai Express) and created such an iconic character together, so to be able to collaborate with him again, it was five days of immense and intense fun."

Ranveer Singh, who was also present at the event chimed in about Deepika's comic timing and said, "In an artist's repertoire, you can be in all kinds of genres - drama, thriller, romance... But if you can crack comedy as an artist, then you've opened up and unlocked a completely different dimension. Up until Chennai Express, we didn't even know Deepika's humourous side and her impeccable comic timing."

Ranveer went on to add, "I remember I've seen Chennai Express twice in the theatres and an innumerable number of times after that. It's a cult classic and she really showcased a different side of her repertoire (in the film) which after so long we got to see a nazara of that (character) in this song (Current Laga Re). This humourous, joyous, joie de vivre, colourful, vibrant side of Deepika's which only (Rohit) bhai is able to bring out, is my favourite avatar of Deepika. I love to see her in this mode the most."

Deepika too quipped saying, "I don't know if I can bring out that avatar with anyone else and I don't even know if I am comforatble bringing that avatar out. He (Rohit) understands it and therefore I am able to be that open and vulnerable infront of him."
