Randeep Hooda’s Swatantrya Veer Savarkar will be out on Zee5 and OTTplay Premium in less than a day. Ahead of the film’s OTT release, the lead actor was conferred with the Swatantrya Veer Sawarkar award in Mumbai.
Randeep Hooda received the award in Mumbai some time ago. Governor of Bihar Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar handed over the award to the actor.
While talking about the award with ANI, the actor called it validation that his film is factual. He said, “I’m very happy that I got this recognition from people who really know about Swatantrya Veer Savarkar. It is a validation that the movie is true and powerful. I wrote it truthfully, so I’m very happy to be conferred today.” It is to be noted that when the film released in theatres, it was called factually incorrect. Nonetheless, all the actors were praised for their performances.
“While researching for the film about his life, I realized that one story, one contribution, one sacrifice, and one life dedicated to a single motive had not reached millions of Indians. It had been hidden from them. I made this film with a sense of anger that his words, thoughts, and life history should be known to people,” he said in a press statement.
On his birth anniversary (on May 28), Randeep will go to Kala Pani, where his movie is being screened. He will visit The Cellular Jail, where the Britishers used to keep political prisoners away and secluded (since Andaman and Nicobar are remote islands in India).
Swatantrya Veer Savarkar tells the tale of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, who was among the reformers during the Indian Independence struggle. He wrote books advocating complete Indian Independence through revolutionary means. After being transported to India from London, he was sentenced to 50 years imprisonment in The Cellular Jail in Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Owing to his mercy petitions to the British, Savarkar was out in 14 years, and he stopped criticism of the British regime. The film was released in theatres earlier this year and is scheduled to drop on OTT on his birth anniversary, May 28. The film will be out and available for streaming on Zee5 and OTTplay Premium.
