Ranbir Kapoor came to Kolkata to promote his upcoming romcom, Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar. Directed by Luv Ranjan, the film also features Shraddha Kapoor. The film will hit the theatre on March 8. In his promotional trail in Kolkata, Rabbit attended a press conference and then met Sourav Ganguly at Eden Gardens and played a friendly match.
Talking about the film, Ranbir pointed out that romcom is a difficult genre that has failed on multiple occasions. “I haven’t done Romcom films for a while. I also felt that this genre is perhaps gone. Not only in India, but globally many romcoms failed. When Luv (Ranjan, director) came to me he came with some other script. That did not happen due to date problems. But then he told me this idea and I liked it. I really liked my character. He believes in love. I am not playing any casanova like many people are perceiving the character to be. I am a character who believes in all-out love in this film. He believes in relationship dynamics. But when he falls in love, he falls for a difficult woman. She turns out to be a liar. That’s when he brings out the ‘makkar’ side of his character,” he said.
Pointing out the changing language of love, Ranbir said, “Romcom is a tough genre. As the world is going on at a very rapid pace, the concepts and conflicts of love are also changing. Sometimes when we make romcoms we are also influenced by western culture. The romcoms like Jab We Met or Band Baja Barat seep into our culture and we love them. It is with our characters and the conflicts are very relatable. Luv Ranjan is a brilliant writer. He takes great care of dialogues and his dialogues are often like standup comedy. This is a hilarious take on love. I really liked it.”

When asked if he could give relationship advice, Ranbir said, “I am no one to give relationship advice. It is easy to get into a relationship because you feel great. Heartbreak is very painful. You just have to go by your heart. You’ll have to deal on your own.”
