Rana Sarkar – one of the most controversial figures in the Bengali film industry – is back again. The producer, who is known for his provocative and direct remarks, has been attacking Dev, Jeet, and Prosenjit. This time, he took to his social media handle to taunt Dev and Prosenjit Chatterjee for the reported lukewarm response to their film Kacher Manush. The film that was released just before the Puja has received mixed reviews from critics and viewers.
Rana harped on the success of Dhrubo Banerjee’s Karnaasubarner Guptodhon on social media. According to unofficial reports, the Abir Chatterjee-Ishaa Saha and Arjun Chakrabarty-starrer treasure hunt has managed to recover its cost within three days of its release. In five days, it reportedly earned Rs Four cr. On the other hand, Kacher Manush has managed Rs 55 lakh so far. Meanwhile, none of the production houses released any information about the business figures.
Rana wrote, “The last year’s information shows that the superstars have no market value anymore. There are three superhit films, Karnasubarna, Aparajito and Belashuru. All the credit goes to Abir Chatterjee, Jeetu Kamal, and the Shiboprasad-Nandita duo.”
Targetting veteran actor Prosenjit Chatterjee, he further wrote, “Another one, who calls himself the ‘industry’, has given his last hit in 2019, which was Gumnami, directed by Srijit Mukherji. Everything flopped after that.”
Rana also complained that the information about the box office collection of Dev’s Tonic and Kishmish and Jeet’s Raavan is false. He claims that no film’s collection crossed Rs 2.5 crores, though reportedly Ravan's collection is Rs 4.7 crores. He challenged that if someone doubts his integrity then they can publish the details or even go to court. “I will meet you there,” he retorted.
Certifying Jeetu Kamal and Abir as today’s superstars, Rana tells the fans of Dev and Prosenjit that “please don't harm Bengali films by providing false information in favour of your favourite heroes,” he wrote.
