Ramoji Rao, the media baron and film producer passed away today. The popular celebs of South cinema, including Chiranjeevi, SS Rajamouli, Rajinikanth, Mohanlal and others mourned the legend’s demise.

Ramoji Rao, the media baron-turned-film producer, and the head of the world’s largest film production facility Ramoji Film City passed away today (June 8, 2024). The 87-year-old legend reportedly had his last breath at 3.45 AM today at the Star Hospital in Hyderabad, due to age-related complications. Ramoji Rao, who headed the Ramoji Group, was also the head of Telugu states’ famous media networks, Eenadu newspaper, and the ETV television group. The celebrities of the South film industry, including Chiranjeevi, SS Rajamouli, Rajinikanth, Mohanlal, Allu Arjun, and many others mourned the demise of the legend on social media, recently.
RRR director SS Rajamouli took to his official social media handles and penned a heartfelt note, mourning the demise of Ramoji Rao. “ONE man with his 50 years of resilience, hard work and innovation provided employment, livelihood, and hope for millions,” wrote the filmmaker. “The only way we can pay tribute to Ramoji Rao garu is by conferring him with "BHARAT RATNA,” further added Rajamouli.
“Mount Meru, which does not bow to anyone... Divi Kegindi. Om Shanti,” wrote megastar Chiranjeevi Konidela, who shared a throwback picture of the media mogul on his X (formerly Twitter) handle. “Deeply saddened by the passing of #RamojiRao Garu, a pioneer and an inspiring visionary whom I deeply respect. I feel his aura every time I shoot at #RFC. His unparalleled contributions to the media, cinema, and many other industries will never be forgotten. Heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones. May his great soul rest in peace,” reads Allu Arjun’s X post.
“I am deeply saddened on hearing the demise of my mentor and well wisher Shri Ramoji Rao Garu. The man who created history in Journalism, Cinema and a great kingmaker in Politics. He was my guide and inspiration in my life. May his soul rest in peace,” wrote Rajinikanth, the legendary superstar of Tamil cinema who shared a deep personal bond with Ramoji Rao.
Mohanlal, the Malayalam superstar took to his social media handles and wrote: “Deeply grieved to hear about the passing of Shri Ramoji Rao Garu. He wasn't just a visionary leader, but a kind and inspiring figure. His passion for Indian cinema, evident in Ramoji Film City, transformed the film industry, setting new standards for excellence in filmmaking. My heartfelt condolences to his family. Om Shanti.” Jr NTR, on the other hand, shared a long post on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, remembered the legend, and recalled the memories shared with Ramoji Rao during the making of his debut film, Ninnu Chhadalani.
