It was Kalikaprasad Bhattacharjee’s birthday on September 11 and wishes poured from different corners in the memory of the musician. With his music through his band, Dohar, Bengali people found their roots and traditional folk philosophy.

Several unreleased songs of Dohars found their place in Shiboprosad Mukherjee and Nandita Roy’s upcoming film Raktabeej. Billed as a thriller, the film features Victor Banerjee, Mimi Chakraborty, Abir Chatterjee, Anashua Majumdar, Ambarish Bhattacharya, and other, and will be released during Puja.

One of the songs was written by Kalika Prasad’s uncle. This hitherto unheard song will be heard for the first time on the big screen. Kalika Prasad’s creation will find its audience once again. The song written by Kalika Prasad’s uncle is named, Bisarjaner Gan (Song of Immersion). Iman Chakraborty and the other members of the Dohar team recorded this song. There is another Dohar song, Gouri Elo, sung by Tirtha Bhattacharya. A third song, Dugga Dugga, which Kalika Prasad wrote and gave music to, was sung by team Dohar.

Shiboprasad told the media, “The power in Dohar songs is needed in Raktabeej. Since the film was shot in Birbhum and Murshidabad, the folk songs of those parts were essential.”

Kalika Prasad worked as the music director in the Windows film Rosogolla. People still remember those songs. But the director regrets that Kalika passed away before the film was released.

Kalika Prasad died in 2017 at the age of 47 in a deadly car crash near Gudap while returning from a concert. The music fraternity was shocked by the news. Ever since Kalika Prasad’s memories have been celebrated by the music and film fraternity.
