Fans of Akshay Kumar, who were disappointed with Bachchhan Pandey and Samrat Prithviraj, had pinned high hopes on Raksha Bandhan which was directed by Aanand L Rai. The hype for the film escalated further after it was officially announced that Aamir Khan's Laal Singh Chaddha will have a box office clash with the movie.
However, both the projects ended up as colossal failures. Raksha Bandhan, which was touted as a family drama, starred Bhumi Pednekar, Sadia Khateeb and Seema Pahwa among others in pivotal roles. The film, which was penned by Himanshu Sharma and Kanika Dhillon, went on to gross around ₹70 crores at the box office.
The film is now ready for its digital premiere. Zee5 has announced that the movie will drop on the OTT platform on October 5. Its story revolves around a doting brother and his four sisters. How he manages to find appropriate brides for his sisters forms the major crux of the story.
Himesh Reshammiya has scored songs for the film while Ishaan Chhabra has composed background score. KU Mohanan and Hemal Kothari have handled cinematography and editing respectively for the project which was bankrolled jointly by Cape of Good Films and Colour Yellow Productions.
Akshay has had four releases this year, including Cuttputlli which had a direct release on Disney+ Hotstar, a month ago. The actor is now gearing up for the release of Ram Setu which is slated for a theatrical release on October 25.
The film directed by Abhishek Sharma stars Jacqueline Fernandez, Nushrratt Bharuccha and Satyadev Kancharana essaying significant characters in it. The movie's digital rights are with OTT giant Amazon Prime Video.
