During his interview with India Today, Rakesh Roshan revealed that Ameesha was cast for her debut film Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai just three days before the shoot. We already know that she did not have to audition for the film, and Rakesh revealed the real reason is that he wanted fresh faces for Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai.

Hrithik Roshan helped with Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai script, Ameesha Patel felt like a veteran on sets
In the same interview, Rakesh Roshan revealed that Hrithik Roshan helped with the scripting process of Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai. This makes sense because the story itself is based on Hrithik and his ex-wife Sussanne's real-life love story (the traffic signal scene).
As for Ameesha in Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai, Rakesh Roshan was left impressed with the debutante, to the extent that he ended up calling her a veteran actor. It was their performance that did the trick for him.
