The Punjabi short film, also starring Manav Vij, is selected for the upcoming Ottawa Indian Film Festival Awards

Acclaimed actor Rajit Kapur has revealed that he felt emotional to be part of director Puneet Prakash’s Punjabi short film Birha: The Journey Back Home, which he says, also gave him a chance to represent his Punjabi heritage.
The film has travelled to various film festivals including - Hollywood Shorts FEST, Los Angeles Film Awards, New York Indian Film Festival, Calcutta International Cult Film Festival and the Gangtok International Film Festival. And now, it is all set to be screened at the Ottawa Indian Film Festival Awards.
Talking about his experience of working on the film, Rajit said, “Birha: The Journey Back Home is a very personal and emotional film on multiple levels. I got so immersed in the character that I felt that some mystical power was guiding me. I had a very good connection with Puneet and Ghalib. We were all on the same page. This is my first Punjabi film, and I was glad to represent my heritage.”
Manav Vij, who is also playing a pivotal role in the film, spoke about why he agreed to do the film. “I was blown away when I read the script and said yes immediately. I also share a close relationship with Rajitji and was looking forward to our scenes. The movie is simple, yet very intense. A very special film for me and I really enjoyed the journey,” the actor said.
The story of the film is set in Punjab. It’s a heart-wrenching story of a family that tears apart due to the unjustified ambitions of their child. The Ottawa Indian Film Festival Awards will take place between June 13 and 17.
