It’s sort of surprising when Malayalam actress Rajisha Vijayan says that most of her movies before Malayankunju never had her play a sibling. The Fahadh Faasil-starrer too had her in a short and serious role, as compared to her latest film Madhura Manohara Moham, which revolves around a mother and three children, essayed by Bindu Panicker, Rajisha Vijayan, Sharafudheen and Malavika, respectively.
Ask her how different it was playing the character in Stephy Zaviour’s director as compared to Malayankunju and she says, “You do have fun while doing a fun movie, and don’t have as much fun while you are part of a more serious film. I, personally, don’t like to stray too far from what my character’s emotions are at a particular time. That’s because if I go ahead and have a lot of fun, it will take me some time to get back to the other mode; I’d rather prefer to stay close to what my character is going through.”
The actress says that movies like June as well as Madhura Manohara Moham let her be more free on the sets. “For Malayankunju, I only had about four days of shoot. It was also the first time that I had played the role of a sibling. For some reason, I don’t think I have had a proper sibling in any of my films. Madhura Manohara Moham is extremely different from Malayankunju though,” she says.
Further on the sibling dynamics in the movie, Rajisha says, “Generally, the siblings in Malayalam cinema share a goody-goody relationship where the sister has an over-protective brother. This movie is entirely different in that regard.”
The film also has a host of actors including Vijayaraghavan, Baiju Santosh, Arsha Chandini Baiju, Neena Kurup and Saiju Kurup as part of the cast. The movie, which marks Stephy’s directorial debut, hit theatres on June 16.
