Rajinikanth’s Coolie character poster: Fan theories on Lokesh Kanagaraj’s film win the internet

Coolie, the highly anticipated Rajinikanth starrer directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, started rolling in July 2024. After a long wait, the makers dropped a series of updates on the film on social media, the past few days. Director Lokesh and his team revealed the character posters from the film, featuring leading man Rajinikanth and other cast members, so far. Interestingly, the name of the superstar’s character in the film has prompted the netizens to develop some interesting fan theories.

Rajinikanth’s character in Coolie reminds netizens of THIS film

Earlier in one of his interviews, director Lokesh Kanagaraj had opened up about his admiration for Thalapathi, the 1991-released Mani Ratnam directorial, which featured Rajinikanth and Mammootty in the lead roles. The superstar played a character named Suriya in the film, while the Malayalam megastar appeared as Deva. The netizens, who are impressed with the Coolie character poster, are now curious about Rajinikanth’s character ‘Deva’ and are wondering if the film has a Thalapathi connection.

Meanwhile, the character Deva, played by Rajinikanth in the film is seen sitting on a chair in an all-black outfit, with a golden number plate in his hand. The same number plate was spotted with the superstar in the Coolie title announcement teaser as well, in the form of an armband. Interestingly, some of the netizens believe that the number 1421 on the plate holds great significance in Lokesh Kanagaraj’s film plot. Some believe that it is the Chinese number for the ‘evil king’ and have concluded that Rajinikanth’s character in the film has negative shades.
