Rajinikanth to reunite with Mani Ratnam after 33 years? Here's what we know

Rajinikanth has been teaming up with the young talents of Tamil cinema, for all his recent outings. The legendary superstar has been keen on collaborating with promising, relatively new filmmakers, especially in the last few years. However, the rumor mills suggest that the veteran actor is now set to reunite with Thalapathi director Mani Ratnam, after a long gap of 33 years. As per the reports, the legendary actor-director duo is set to drop the big update, soon.

Rajinikanth, Mani Ratnam to reunite for Thalaivar 173?

According to the grapevine, Mani Ratnam, who is now busy with the post-production of his next outing Thug Life, is all set to announce his next outing soon. If the reports are to be believed, the veteran director is planning to team up with superstar Rajinikanth, after wrapping up the upcoming Kamal Haasan starrer. For the uninitiated, the iconic duo previously teamed up in 1991 for the action-drama film Thalapathi.

The new speculations on the duo’s reunion have left the fans of both the superstar and the filmmaker, highly excited. According to rumor mills, Rajinikanth is planning to team up with Mani Ratnam for his upcoming 173rd project. If things go as planned, the actor-director duo might officially announce their collaboration for Thalaivar 173, mostly on 12 December 2024, on the special occasion of the veteran actor’s 74th birthday. AR Rahman is reportedly confirmed to be a part of the project. However, these reports are not officially confirmed, yet.

In that case, it is also safe to assume that the legend’s upcoming collaboration with Vaazhai director Maari Selvaraj, which was expected to be announced as his 173rd project, might get pushed further. However, from the recent interactions between Rajinikanth and the talented filmmaker, it is safe to assume that the duo is indeed gearing up to join hands for a project, very soon. But, the recent updates suggest that this film might get delayed a bit.
