Rajinikanth drops major updates on Vettaiyan; says THIS about Thalaivar 171

Rajinikanth, the legendary superstar of Tamil cinema, was recently seen in Lal Salaam, the sports drama helmed by his daughter Aishwarya Rajinikanth. The movie, which featured the veteran actor in a key role, has been receiving mixed reviews from audiences and critics. Meanwhile, the superstar is now busy with his other work commitments, including the upcoming TJ Gnanavel directorial, which has been titled Vettaiyan.

Meanwhile, Rajinikanth, who recently addressed the media in Chennai, opened up about his upcoming projects. The legendary actor dropped some major updates on Vettaiyan and his much-awaited 171st project, which has been tentatively titled Thalaivar 171 and is helmed by hitmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj.

Vettaiyan's shoot is 80% complete, confirms Rajinikanth

Rajinikanth, who addressed the media representatives with a wide smile on his face, thanked Lyca Productions, director Aishwarya Rajinikanth, and the audiences for the success of his recent film Lal Salaam. Later, the superstar opened up about his next outing, Vettaiyan, which has been under production for the past couple of months. The leading man confirmed that around 80 percent shooting of the highly anticipated project is finished, so far. He also added that the pending 20 percent of the filming will be wrapped up very soon.

For the uninitiated, the makers are reportedly keen to release Vettaiyan in April 2024 as a Tamil Putthandu (New Year) special release. However, a final decision on the release date will be made only after director TJ Gnanavel and his team wrap up the entire shooting schedule of the film. The highly anticipated official teaser of the film is expected to be released immediately after the shoot wrap.

Thalaivar 171 will start rolling immediately after Vettaiyan wraps up

Interestingly, Rajinikanth also confirmed that he will immediately start shooting for his 171st outing, which is helmed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, after wrapping up Vettaiyan. In that case, it is safe to assume that the highly anticipated project, which has been tentatively titled Thalaivar 171, will go on floors by the end of March or the beginning of April 2024. An official update on the shooting date and the rest of the star cast of the project are expected to be out soon.
