Rajeev Khandelwal became a popular actor after he played Sujal Garewal in the Balaji Telefilms soap opera Kahiin To Hoga way back in 2003. In 2018, Rajeev made his OTT debut with Ekta Kapoor's Alt Balaji’s Haq Se. Taking his OTT journey ahead, Rajeev will now be seen as Armaan in Disney+ Hotstar’s new web series, ‘Showtime’, which is produced by Karan Johar's Dharmatic. The series promises to showcase Rajeev in a never-seen-before character and here's what he had to say about it.
Karan Johar revealed that Showtime is centred around "cinema aur pardein ke peeche ka cinema". The web series revolves around the business of films and the dark underbelly of the film industry, with a touch of nepotism. Talking of his character in the show, Armaan, an egoistic and conceited superstar, Rajeev said, “It’s an amalgamation of many actors and my character will remind people of a few big names, maybe superstars – their past, insecurities and beliefs.”
From directing a TV show to playing varied roles as a well-known lead actor to switching acting gears to OTT and even hosting popular reality shows, Rajeev Khandelwal has done it all. However, he found it difficult to connect to Armaan’s persona and psyche – that of a self-absorbed, mean and conniving superstar – in Showtime.

“I could never relate to Armaan’s character. I'm a very different person. So, if you look at my career graph or my choices, you will realise that I am not one of those actors,” he said. Rajeev added, “There are many people like the actor you will see me portray in Showtime. They are around us everywhere and one keeps hearing about them.”
Sharing the show’s trailer three days ago, Rajeev had captioned the Instagram post, “Cinema dhanda nahi, dharm hai.” Showtime also stars Naseeruddin Shah, Emraan Hashmi, Shriya Saran, Mahima Makwana, Mouni Roy, Vijay Raaz and Lilette Dubey in significant roles.
