This Friday, August 25, Raj B Shetty and his team will present their film Toby to audiences . Unlike their earlier works, this is a film that went from conception to execution and presentation in record time. And while Raj has been concentrating on the promotion of the film, giving audiences only the minutest of glimpses into the world of Toby pre-release, KVN Productions has the responsibility of taking the film to the target audience.
Speaking to OTTplay, Mohan Suprith, Business Head at KVN Productions said that they were targeting around 200-225 screens in Karnataka, with at least 125 of those being single-screens theatres. The film, he adds, is releasing in its Kannada original version, even though, dubbed versions in Telugu and Tamil are ready. “We want to see the response to the Kannada version before flooding the market with the dubbed versions,” Suprith tells us, adding that the team has had enquiries for a Hindi version as well. “Getting to 200 screens overall, will be a good start for us.
For now, he says, KVN will take Toby as a Kannada film not only to the rest of India, but overseas as well. The film, he says, will have premieres in Canada, UK, Australia and Singapore on August 24. “As of now, only the UAE release is delayed and should happen in about a week. The delay is only owing to censor specifications there,” Suprith added.
Toby, produced by Lighter Buddha Films, Agastya Films and Coffee Gang Studio, has Raj in the title role, with Gopalkrishna Deshpande, Bharath GB, Samyukta Hornad and Chaithra J Achar, in pivotal roles on the cast, has music by Midhun Mukundan and cinematography by Pravin Shriyan. The film has been written by Raj, based on a short story by Dayanand TK, with the narrative set in Kumta.
