Ever since Raj B Shetty introduced audiences to his new film, Toby, there has been speculation that it could be similar to his earlier Garuda Gamana Vrishabha Vahana, especially after he revealed a fierce first look. Since the film is still more than a month away from its theatrical release and the trailer is set to drop in the first week of August only, it has been up to Raj to explain to audiences what to expect from Toby.

One thing that Raj has been very clear in all his interviews so far has been that Garuda Gamana Vrishabha Vahana (GGVV) and Toby are vastly different films, not only in terms of the scale and the making style, but also in the setting of the story. In his most recent promotional interview for Toby Raj said that the major difference between Shiva from GGVV and Toby is that the latter is a family man and that there is drama, action, love and comedy too in the fim, as opposed to the former.

“Shiva was a mystery; a man who doesn’t talk much, which made it difficult for audiences to figure out what goes on in his mind or how he would react to certain circumstances. Moreover, he was a gangster. Toby, on the other hand, is a family man; someone that you can gauge easily. You will see his cultural and societal backdrop as well as his family drama. This is a man that audiences will see and root for; they will want to see him succeed,” said Raj in an interview to a digital platform.

Directed by Raj’s long-time associate Basil AL Chalakkal, Toby is being presented and distributed by KVN Productions. The film will be released in Kannada on August 25, with dubbed versions in other languages likely depending on the response to the original in theatres. The film has music by Midhun Mukundan, cinematography by Praveen Shriyan and includes Chaithra J Achar, Samyukta Hornad and Gopalkrishna Deshpande on the cast.
