Raj B Shetty, who writes, directs and also stars in the film as the male lead, took to social media to announce that the film be a theatrical release after all.

Raj B Shetty might have gained fame and prominence for his recent gangster dramas but not many outside Karnataka know that, not very long ago, he quietly finished shooting an intimate love story titled Swathi Mutthina Male Haniye. Raj has cast himself as one of the two lead roles in the film with Siri Ravikumar playing the female lead and Sandalwood Queen 'Ramya' marking her debut as a producer.
Swathi Mutthina Male Haniye, after much ado, is ready for its theatrical release. Raj and Co. took to social media a short while ago to announce that their film will be out in cinemas on November 24, 2023.
"Wish you all Happy Vijayadashami. We are elated to share the release date of #SwathiMutthinaMaleHaniye with all of you. See you at the movies 🍿" wrote the Toby actor in his tweet.
Ramya, who launched her production venture Applebox Studios back in August 2022, revealed that she would be working with Raj B Shetty on her maiden project. In fact, when the film took off, she was to star as the female lead opposite Raj but would soon make way for Siri Ravikumar. Swathi Mutthina Male Haniye come as a joint collaboration of Applebox Studios and Lighter Buddha Films.

As much as the film feels like a bit of a departure for Raj B Shetty, who has been part of two back-to-back gritty crime dramas, the writer-director himself feels that he is open to an idea of any kind as long as it stirs something in him. In a recent conversation with OTTplay, he disclosed that Swathi Mutthina Male Haniye came to be because of a random phone call he received not very long ago, when a married woman (whom he had met briefly, for not more than 10 minutes) rang him up and had a rather strange conversation with him. Raj would instantly be motivated to extrapolate that conversation and fictionalize the charcaters, before arriving at the story.
