Raima Sen stepped into the world of OTT in 2017 with Hoichoi’s original series Hello. As the thriller that also features Priyanka Sarkar and Joy Sengupta was rendered for three seasons, Raima has explored OTT platforms. Her Netflix original, Mai, with Sakshi Tanwar has been acclaimed by many critics.
In a recent interview with Etimes, the actress said that the emergence of OTT platforms has given artistes and technicians opportunities. She further added that OTT platforms have become more crucial after the pandemic as everybody has ‘flocked’ towards it.
Raima also pointed out that the platforms have made way for many forgotten actors, actresses and even technicians. “The web series on these platforms gave everyone equal opportunities. The story here did not revolve around one actor. Each and every character is important and has a story to tell. None of the content was star-driven so no one felt left out,” she said.
Raima also said that the new contents of the platforms are often looking out for new talents and fresh actors. “This has proved to be a boon for even people behind the camera. It is because of the freedom it provides, that people are able to tell their stories openly and truthfully. This is why the content now is becoming stronger,” the actress pointed out.
Raima also pointed out that the web content are dealing with a series of female-centric series that are led by actresses like Vidya Balan, Taapsee Pannu, Huma Qureshi and others.
Raima also pointed out that the presence of OTT has been changing the quality of films as well. She said that since people have the access to world-class global content, they would only go out and watch a good film in theatres. “For you to pull the audience to the theatres, you will need to come up with something great. No stars will be able to do that if the content is not good,” she said, adding the conventional idea of ‘rat race’ is a passé.
