Director Harish Shankar, who made his OTT debut with ZEE5’s show ATM this year (for which he was the show runner) is taking a break between the shoot of Pawan Kalyan’s Ustaad Bhagat Singh. While he awaits the return of Pawan Kalyan on the sets of his action entertainer post the Andhra Pradesh assembly elections, he joins forces with Ravi Teja for a quickie that’ll be wrapped by the first half of 2024.

His next marks his third collaboration with Ravi Teja after Shock and Mirapakay. While Shock continues to garner impressive viewership whenever it’s telecast on television, Mirapakay is celebrated by the star’s fans at every given opportunity. Harish Shankar’s approach towards cinema perfectly aligns with Ravi Teja’s strengths - a reason why film buffs are quite excited about their upcoming film.

Eminent production house People Media Factory (TG Vishwa Prasad) bankrolls the film that’s touted to be a remake of Ajay Devgn’s Hindi hit Raid, directed by Raj Kumar Gupta. The film revolves around an eventful ‘raid’ in an income tax officer’s life, where the government official lock horns with Lucknow’s corrupt yet influential man Rameshwar Singh (played by Saurabh Shukla).

The filmmaker’s choice to opt for a remake is quite understandable and practical. While were regular reports on Raid being remade in Telugu in the recent years, is it arriving a little too late? In its Hindi version, Raid was a straightforward yet a well-made thriller sans many cinematic liberties. It’ll be interesting to see how Harish Shankar blends his mass sensibilities with the script.

Ravi Teja was to work on the Telugu remake of Akshay Kumar’s Special 26 (which didn’t materialise) - also a film about (fake) raids. After a series of mass outings like Tiger Nageswara Rao and Eagle, one can expect to see Ravi Teja in a unique script-driven outing. Will Bhagyashri Borse, the female lead, have a meatier role in comparison to Shriya Saran in Raid? We’ll know soon.
