Shanthnu Bhagyaraj's rural drama Raavana Kottam has just hit screens and has opened to mixed reviews at the box office. In the meantime, Shanthnu has come up with a video clip in which he has opened up on facing failures in his life and how his expectations nosedived at many stages of his career.
In the video, he is seen saying, "A little more than a decade ago, as a college college student, I had his big dream to become an actor. I grew up with the same aspiration as I visited the many film sets that starred my father (K Bhagyaraj). All those dreams and aspirations finally came true with my launch vehicle Sakkarakatti."
He adds, "Superstar Rajinikanth had once cited an example that if you asked a child if he or she wanted one chocolate or two, the child would eventually pick both. Just like that, I had AR Rahman sir scoring music for my debut film and Kalaippuli Thanu producing the film. No one could have got such a great launch and my happiness knew no bounds."
Shanthnu says none of his wishes were fulfilled after that. "Sakkarakatti released. Whatever I thought I could achieve and become, none of it happened after the film's release. That's how I learnt about cinema and review. I did a lot of films after that and I don't know if you would even recognise some of them if I said the name of the project. "
He adds, "After a long time, I got 'Thangam' in Paava Kadhaigal, for which I got a good reception. That's when I felt the taste of appreciation. But Paava Kadhaigal was an OTT release and not a theatrical release. " He also spoke about how even Lokesh Kanagaraj's Master let him down. "I thought Master would give me a fillip to my career, but you know what happened there, too."
Speaking about Raavana Kottam, Shanthnu says, "As far as cinema is concerned, it doesn't matter where you are coming from, your hard work matters. That's how I did Ravana Kottam. I have worked with the same enthusiasm and passion as my maiden project. Only this time around, I have a ten-year career behind me."
