Have you ever wondered why you became a die-hard fan of a particular actor? Could it be that you were enamoured by an award-winning performance or was it something else? Here’s a look at some of Kannada cinema’s A-list actors and where to stream some of their most feted works.

Kannada stars’ award-winning films on OTT

Raajakumara

If there’s one film that saw the late Power Star Puneeth Rajkumar sweep all the popular awards of the season, it’s got to be Raajakumara. Puneeth’s first collaboration with Santhosh Ananddram had a 100-day theatrical run at nearly 50 centres across Karnataka. The film, produced by Hombale Films, is said to have made Rs 75 crore at the box office. Puneeth was paired with Priya Anand in the film, which also included a massive ensemble cast with names like Anant Nag, Sarathkumar, Prakash Raj, Achyuth Kumar, Chikkanna, Rangayana Raghu, Vijayalakshmi Singh, etc.

Om

Century Star has won the Karnataka State Award for Best Actor multiple times, but his first was for Om, directed by actor-filmmaker Upendra. It was also the first time that Shivarajkumar played a gangster, which he has, since then, done multiple times thereafter. The film was a big success and has, in the nearly 30 years since it came out, been re-released over 500 times, each time with great fanfare.

Nandhi

Kiccha Sudeep won the Karnataka State Award for Best Actor way back in 2002 for Nandhi, directed by D Rajendra Babu. The film follows Sudeep as a former convict who joins a law college after serving his sentence in the death of a schoolmate. The film also stars Sindhu Menon, Radhika Chaudhari, and Ashish Vidyarthi, among others.

Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna

Challenging Star Darshan has a soft corner for period, historical and mythological films, and one of his first in that category was Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna, in which he played the title character, a freedom fighter from Belagavi. The film, directed by Naganna, got Darshan an award for Best Actor too.

Mr and Mrs Ramachari

Before Rocking Star Yash became a global phenomenon with KGF, his biggest hit was Santhosh Ananddram’s Mr and Mrs Ramachari. It was the highest-grossing Kannada film of the year, with a 200-day theatrical run. Yash won Best Actor awards for the film that paired him with Radhika Pandit, who, not long after, became his real-life partner.

Kirik Party

Actor-filmmaker Rakshit Shetty may have a National Award at home for his film 777 Charlie, but his earliest and most feted and popular film is, undoubtedly, Kirik Party. The film, directed by Rishab Shetty, won the State award for Best Family Entertainer and introduced two leading ladies to cinema: Rashmika Mandanna and Samyuktha Hegde. Although not a remake, the film was said to have been heavily-influenced by the 2015 Malayalam film Premam.
