Based on a 1985 novella by William S Burroughs of the same name, Queer was adapted for the screen by Challengers writer Justin Kuritzkes and features music by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross (Challengers, The Killer, Bones and All, Mank) and cinematography by Sayombhu Mukdeeprom (Challengers, Call Me By Your Name, Suspiria)

Craig had got acting nominations for the Golden Globe, the Critics' Choice, and the Screen Actors Guild awards for his performance in Queer. In the film, which is set in 1950s Mexico City, Craig plays William Lee, an American expat and loner, who has brief intimate encounters with younger men while bar hopping. When he then meets Eugene Allerton (Starkey), an expat former soldier, Lee becomes obsessed with him, and is certain that there’s a spark between them that’s more than just sexual.

Queer, was produced by Fremantle, Fremantle North America, Lorenzo Mieli for The Apartment, a Fremantle Group Company, and Luca Guadagnino for his Frenesy Film Company, in collaboration withCinecittà and Frame by Frame, had a limited theatrical release in the US in November 2024, followed by the UK in December, where it received largely positive reviews, with Craig receiving special mention for his performance.
