Malayalam actress Meera Jasmine, who made her comeback last year with Sathyan Anthikad’s Makal, will be teaming up with her Achuvinte Amma co-star in director M Padmakumar’s Queen Elizabeth.

The movie, which is touted to be a family drama, went on floors on Monday after its pooja function at Kochi. Written by Arjun T Sathyan, the film also has Shweta Menon, Ramesh Pisharody, Johnny Antony, Arya, Vineeth Vishwam and Mallika Sukumaran in pivotal roles. Directors VK Prakash, Jude Anthany Joseph and Shyamaprasad are also part of the cast.

During the pooja function, Padmakumar, who had previously helmed Joseph, Pathaam Valavu and the Bollywood remake of Joseph with Sunny Deol, said that Queen Elizabeth also showcases a pertinent social issue. The movie has Kochi, Kuttikanam and Coimbatore as its main locations, and is backed by the producers of Jayasurya’s Vellam and Sunny Wayne’s Appan.

In an earlier interview with us, Meera had said that the sabbatical she took from films helped explore another side of herself. “I wanted to do other things that I was interested in. Apart from trying out news things, I was running a business. I also got to travel a lot – be it in Dubai or Europe,” she said.

The actress also explained that she hadn’t heard a lot of scripts during her hiatus. However, she said that she was hopeful of doing different roles in her second coming too. “I’m fortunate that I could work with skilled directors in the beginning of my career and that might have resulted in me getting a lot of roles that weren’t stereotypical. But now the chances of doing such roles are higher because everyone’s more socially aware. A lot of directors are coming with good content and the task is to pick the best among that,” she said.
