Durga Puja is less than a month away and Kolkatans are leaving no stone unturned to pick the right pieces to deck up in Puja. Like every year, Sujoy Prosad Chatterjee and Debjani Chatterjee hosted their annual exhibition Parav, where they presented handicraft and artisanal handloom items. The event took place on September 3 and 4, and a host of celebrities, including Moon Moon Sen, Sahana Bajpaie and others, paid a visit.
The two-day show was opened by transgender social activist Anuprabha Das Mazumder and world musician Ratul Shankar. While Sujoy displayed a large collection of woodwork accessories and hand-painted and varnished jewellery, Debjani showcased Bengal weave. From Bishnupuri silk to simple handloom cotton and tant – her intricate collection has everything Bengal. Sujoy Prosad collaborated with painter Sharmistha Roychowdhury for her charcoal etchings on wood creations.
“This is the first time I collaborated with a painter, Sharmistha and her charcoal etchings on woodcraft were exquisite. This is my new collection of tribal art and I am so glad people liked it. Also, traditionally, a large section of art enthusiasts drop by at our Parav. This year was no exception. There is nothing more fascinating than people appreciating your creations,” said Sujoy Prasad.
Veteran actress Moon Moon Sen visited the exhibition on Day 1. “Sujoy’s sunflower rings are beautiful and the sarees by Debjani are wonderful too. I love being at exhibitions to appreciate the creativity of artists who spread their wings like Sujoy does every time,” said the actress. Moon Moon Sen was recently spotted at an iconic restaurant Trincas, where he hosted the birthday celebration of her husband Bharat Dev Varma.
