Back in 2011, Mohit Raina became the most popular face on Indian television with his show Devon Ke Dev: Mahadev. While the actor played the role of Lord Shiva, Sonarika Bhadoria was seen as Goddess Parvati. Two years later, in July 2013, Sonarika was replaced by Puja Banerjee despite the popularity of Mohit-Sonarika touching the skies. In an interview with OTTplay, Puja confessed it was possible because she chose not to observe Sonarika on screen.
That’s right. While the world was obsessed with Mohit-Sonarika as Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, Puja believed it would be better to enter the sets without any reference. According to her statement, that helped her because people did accept her despite the massive popularity of the show and the previous on-screen couple.
She said, “It was very difficult and challenging because I was stepping into an established show. The pairing of Sonarika and Mohit received immense love. People usually hate it when somebody breaks the pairing but luckily they accepted me. I wanted to do justice to the character; so I never saw what Sonarika did and brought my own aura to the show.”
When asked if the show helped her become popular as an actress, Puja replied, “It definitely changed my life in many ways. People in television still know me as Goddess Parvati since that is the most popular character I have played to date.” The actress was recently seen in the role of Parboni in the Hoichoi web series Paap: Antim Pawrbo.
