Two years ago, just before the pandemic struck, two very different Kannada love stories released in theatres. One of them grabbed eyeballs for its refreshing narrative and tragic ending, which also featured a lot of noteworthy performances. The film was called Dia, after the heroine, and explored her tryst with love, not once, but twice and its outcome. Directed by KS Ashoka, whose claim to fame prior to this was a horror flick called 6-5=2, the film introduced three new actors to Kannada cinema – Dheekshith Shetty, Kushee Ravi and Pruthvi Ambaar.
While all three have gone on to find a good foothold in the Kannada industry and across the border too, Pruthvi has had the fortune of reprising his role twice, which then took him to Bollywood and will soon introduce him in Marathi cinema. Pruthvi, who played the character of Aadi in the original, did it again for the Hindi version which released a while ago, and now, he is looking forward to the Marathi version coming out.
Called Sari, the film, directed by Ashoka, stars Ajinkya Raut and Ritika Shrotri, along with Pruthvi and will be in theatres on May 5. When OTTplay spoke to Pruthvi recently, the actor said that he was quite kicked about debuting in Marathi cinema. “It’s turned out quite well and I am hopeful of it being received well,” said Pruthvi. But does the Marathi version have the original tragic ending or a happy ending? “When the Kannada original came out, there were some who did not like its tragic ending because of the shock value. So, the team had released one version in which the last scene was changed around to leave it open ended and hinting at a happy ending. The Marathi version will have the original ending,” said Pruthvi.
